We understand that not every individual who is addicted to drugs or alcohol is convinced that it’s time to stop using. In cases such as these, we recommend a drug and alcohol intervention. An intervention is a structured, solution oriented process that is undertaken to convince or persuade someone exhibiting a problem with alcohol or drug addiction that it’s time to get some help in stopping the substance abuse. Friends, family members and others close to the addicted individual use the intervention to demonstrate the extent of the effects of substance abuse or alcoholism and related behaviors.

When an intervention is successful, it does not come across to the addicted individual as a confrontation, but as an opportunity for him or her to accept help that is being offered towards taking the first step in the right direction. Often times, loved ones will hire an Interventionist as an unbiased third party to sort of guide them through the intervention process in the most effective way possible.

Are alcohol and drug interventions necessary?

Sometimes, but not often, the addicted individual can recognize the extent of his or her substance abuse problem and seek treatment on their own. An Intervention is necessary when that individual is reluctant or unable to see that their addiction to drugs and or alcohol is the source of what is responsible for problems in health, relationships, work and so on. Often he or she will ignore the safety issues related to driving under the influence and many other high-risk

In many cases, the addict may deny that drugs are the root cause of the problems or difficulties they may be facing. Instead, they will blame other people, places and things in their lives, creating an ideal opportunity for an intervention to get help.

A Professional Intervention may be the Right Solution

Simply put, an intervention is a conversation that has someone’s destiny and the possibility of changing his or her life, riding on it. If your situation has gotten to the point that an Intervention seems like the solution, it can be tempting to try and facilitate it by yourself. An intervention with drug addicted individuals is a tough one to have. He or she often times is in deep denial about
their substance abuse, causing them to react with anger or even violent behavior towards YOU, and you were only trying to help!

Hiring a Professional Interventionist may help ensure that the intervention runs a smoothly as possible, allowing your loved one to have the best opportunity available to get the help he or she needs.

Choosing an Interventionist

Interventions can come with a bourage or different and intense emotions. Choosing an Interventionist with the right technique is an important element to ensure that the conversation with your loved one sticks and stays on track.

Experienced Interventionists have the knowledge and training to help those who are close to the addicted individual, participate in the intervention in a non judgemental and helpful way. This may involve the following:

  • The interventionist will serve as a moderator during the intervention.
  • The interventionist assists in conducting a pre-intervention preparation group session.
  • The professional provides assistance in transitioning addicted individuals into treatment or rehab programs after the intervention is successful.
