SMART Recovery

SMART Recovery Program

Sometimes our participants need something other than the traditional 12-step programs.

We offer a SMART Recovery track program for participants that are looking for an alternative to 12 Step Recovery programs. Our SMART Recovery program option is a good choice for individuals who want to try something different that works just as effectively as a traditional 12 Step track.

SMART Recovery (Self-Management and Recovery Training), is a bit different from a 12 Step program in that it contains a 4-Point aspect that helps individuals recover from ALL TYPES of addictions and addictive behaviors including:

  • Alcohol Addiction
  • Drug Abuse and Drug Addiction
  • Gambling Addiction
  • Cocaine Addiction
  • Sex Addiction
  • Other Addictions or destructive habits

SMART Recovery offers sponsored meetings held face to face around the world and we encourage our participants to take advantage of the support that these meeting offer. Meetings for SMART Recovery are also available online 24 hours a day, 7 days per week.

Our SMART Recovery program is facilitated by a SMART Recovery certified staff member to help participants have the best possible outcome. The 4 Point SMART program includes these components:

  • Building and Maintaining Motivation
  • Coping with Urges
  • Managing Thoughts, Feelings and Behaviors
  • Living a Balanced Life

The SMART Recovery program also contains SMART Tools, a variety of techniques applied to each of the above components. The program is abstinence based and welcomes those who are exploring those who are considering becoming abstinent. This is incorporating Point #1 from above- the Motivation piece of the program. This can be very helpful in individuals who make the decision to become completely abstinent.

Participants in our program will attend daily group therapy and individual therapy sessions, but will attend outside SMART Recovery Meetings rather than 12 step meetings such as Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous. By requiring attendance at outside meetings regularly, participants will gain an understanding of the SMART Recovery program and use the tools necessary to maintain their sobriety. The more abstinence achieved, the more motivation participants experience which enhances their recovery!

In our SMART Recovery program, therapists guide each participant through the 4-Point program during the Course of treatment at Miracle Recovery Center. Having a professional walk through the process of recovery has proven to be valuable in teaching recovery tools such as:

  • Cost/Benefit Analysis
  • Change Plan Worksheet
  • Hierarchy of Values
  • ABC’s of Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (for both coping and emotional upsets)
  • DISARM – Destructive Imagery and Self-talk Awareness, Refusal Methods
  • Brainstorming
  • Role playing/rehearsing

Participants receive their own personalized SMART Recovery handbook to encourage participation and engagement in the program.

SMART Recovery is not the right choice for every individual, however- it’s a great alternative to a different path to achieving and maintaining long term sobriety. Call us today to find out more about our SMART Recovery Track IOP program.
